This is Frank, he is a mix between a demented Dr. Seuss character and the rabbit from Donnie Darko. I first created Frank for a project with the intention of addressing the topic of depression, an issue I feel strongly about. He is the manifestation of my negative thoughts
With this project I learnt how to set up a muscle deformation rig, and how to paint the muscle weights. I became familiar with XGen's fur simulation and spline grooming feature to create frank's grotesque, oily coat. I went through the process of motion capture along with the difficulties of getting clean data from a motion capture studio with an 8 camera set-up, this proved to be quite difficult. Frank III is using data from a 12 camera set up and the resulting mo-cap data is far cleaner as there are no reflector occlusions.
Below is an example of how the muscles reacted before weight painting, it results in quite a comical effect.
